The Scam…
The Mayor and the town manager waved as their next victim approached. I chuckled as a tow truck pulled up in front of City Hall. A well-dressed stranger hopped from the cab, watching as the truck pulled away, dragging his car to the garage. He turned toward the colorful building, bird houses hanging from the eaves and motioned by the mayor the stranger entered City Hall.
Our little community nearly dried up when the factory closed, and times were tough. The mayor and his brother-in-law, the town manager had grown accustomed to their salaries, so they decided to generate revenue the only way they knew how. A bullet fired into the radiator of an expensive car traveling the interstate brought the mark to town. The town manager, a champion poker player did the rest.
I drove on, delivering the mail, hoping they’d win enough to fix the potholes.

There’s nothing sure about Poker though. I wonder what happens if the manager does not win?
Could get ugly?

Win some, lose some…. but the town manager is a pretty good poker player! Now if he gets caught cheating… well, that could get ugly. Thanks for reading!

Ah, a scam to survive is better than a grizzly murderer. And that’s Aces in my book. 😉

I didn’t want a full on ‘nasty’ either.
So I just let it be ‘assumed’.

A cunning plan! Everyone’s a winner (apart from the mark, of course). They’ll have those potholes fixed in no time, with maybe a bit left over for a nice play-park and sports facilities 🙂
Clever and fun story!

I definitely like the logic behind everything and as we know pot holes can cause damage themselves.

That’s an effective scam. Although it may be found out one day and put a stop to. Some other small town nearby may turn them in. They’re weaving a tangled web for themselves. Well done, CQ. 🙂 — Suzanne
