Short story: Omnipotent

Omnipotent

“I see absolutely everything.”

I, and the others like me, are the guardians of this planet, assigned by the Dominion to observe the evolution of humans. My masters deposited the primordial soup of life on worlds across the void to create a universe of sentient peaceful beings. We nurture and watch these creatures, less they stray from the prime directive.

These humans are oblivious to our presence. They go about their lives, walking past us… without concern. The concern is ours.

Turmoil while learning to live as a cohesive population is a normal occurrence as humans mature. Conflict is a natural tendency, one the Dominions struggled to overcome in their infancy. However, these humans on this world committed a more heinous sign of immaturity. They abused the planet’s natural resources without remorse, and their world is dying.

Soon the Dominion will arrive to discipline their wayward children.

  1. Lovely story! The question is however: How will Dominions discipline Humans, if they have already left the infantile behaviour of conflicts behind? Or does that only apply to conflicts among themselves? In that case, the Dominions are possibly even less evolved than Humans, as we have (although only quite recently) learned to treat animals with a bit more respect. Unless we’re kept like cattle for slaughter… Thinking about it, I’m not too sure about these Dominions and their greater good. Sounds a bit fishy to me. 🙂

    1. Ummm… very interesting observation… I do believe you may have the beginnings of a rebel group that does not trust the Dominion. While the Dominion may have put their own internal conflicts aside, we do not know if they are benevolent or if they will control through force. My hope is they are benevolent and guide us to protect and respect our planet.

      Well… idealistic, aren’t I??

Love, love, love your comment!! Thanks so much!!!!!
