The Writer’s Stare…

Friday humor

I know I’m guilty of staring at people. In fact, people watching is one of my favorite pastimes. The quirky among us, whose style or lack of is paraded for all to see, provide wonderful images to capture in word. But I also love to watch people going about their daily routine. What is the driver in the car next to me at the traffic light thinking, where are they going? The person in front of me at the bank seems hurried, anxious, are they simply late picking up their child from school, or about to rob the place? There are so many possibilities.

Characters on the written page exist in our imagination. By giving them the mannerisms, emotions, and style of the flesh and blood characters we meet every day, our creations come to life.  So, start staring, you have a book to write.

  1. That is so true, I finally bought a hardback spiral notebook small enough to fit in my purse for those times when I had to write something down. But when I don’t have it with me, a napkin will do!
